Ben Small, MD


Dr. Ben Small is board-certified in Rheumatology and Internal medicine, practicing in Chicago, IL. He specializes in diagnosing and treating patients with a variety of autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, gout, and many others.


He grew up in New York City and received his undergraduate degree from Brown University in Providence, RI, then moved to Chicago where he received his medical degree from Rush Medical College. He completed his medical residency at Loyola Medicine MacNeal Hospital and his fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Small has been very involved in research and has authored or co-authored more than 35 papers, book chapters, and abstracts on a wide variety of rheumatic conditions and treatments.

Dr. Small is married to Dr. Alexandra Katz Small, also a rheumatologist, with whom he has three young children. Besides spending time with family, he enjoys traveling, sports, and music.
