Alexandra Katz Small, MD


Dr. Alexandra Katz Small is board-certified in both rheumatology and internal medicine. She is specially qualified to care for patients who have a variety of conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, fibromyalgia, connective tissue diseases, among many others. She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Rush University Medical Center.


Born and raised in Chicago, Dr. Katz Small began her life-long dream to become a rheumatologist by receiving her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completing a postbaccalaureate degree from Columbia University. Following that, she returned to Chicago to complete her medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, her residency at Rush University Medical Center, and her fellowship in rheumatology at Rush University Medical Center.

Dr. Katz Small is very interested in research to continue to find new solutions for her patients. She has co-authored 26 clinical research studies which were published as scientific papers and abstracts.

She is married to Dr. Ben Small and they enjoy spending time with their three young children. She enjoys traveling and running, including in the Chicago marathon.
